Welcome to the Age-Friendly Niagara Update! The intent is to keep you informed about the work of the Age-Friendly Niagara Council (AFNC) and the Niagara Older Adult Alliance (NOAA) in leading age-friendly community action across the region.

Calling all Adults 50+ to “Have your Say” by completing the Empowering Older Adults in Niagara Survey!   
All older adults 50+ in Niagara are invited to complete the Empowering Older Adults in Niagara Survey before July 15, 2022. The Age-Friendly Niagara Council (AFNC) is conducting the survey to learn more about issues of interest and concern to older adults who live in all local areas of Niagara.

The work of the survey is funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.2021 Census data shows that Adults aged 55 and older make up more than 38 per cent of the population in the Niagara region

The 2022 theme for Seniors Month in Ontario is ‘Stay Active, Connected and Safe”. Several municipalities and groups across Niagara are marking Seniors Month with activities such as flag-raising, special events, and dedication of ‘Let’s Chat’ benches. For example, the Seniors Stepping Out Spring Festival in Fort Erie is being sponsored by the Town of Fort Erie Seniors Citizens Advisory Committee. The festival is described as “an opportunity to have some fun, meet with your friends, make new friends and learn some new information about ageing successfully”.

Older Adult Infolink provides easier access to information about community services in Niagara
The Older Adult Infolink site is designed for older adults, their caregivers and family, as well as service providers supporting older adults, to have easier, enhanced and more centralized access to information about community services in Niagara. Programs and services listed on the Older Adult Infolink site are shared from the 211 data collection. Links to municipal Community Leisure Guides in all 12 local areas of Niagara are also provided. Click here to see the Older Adult Infolink site.
